Black's Law Dictionary
Black's Law Dictionary is probably the most widely used legal dictionary. The law library has a copy of the 10th edition in the Reserve Room. Older editions are located in the Treatises section. The call number is KF156 .B53.
Black's Law Dictionary is also available on Westlaw. Simply start typing "black's law dictionary" in the search box and select the dictionary.
Benefits of Using a Legal Dictionary
- A legal dictionary provides a general definition of the term.
- In some cases, it also provides references to relevant primary and secondary sources. For example, the entry for Search in Black's Law Dictionary provides a definition and cites to a Supreme Court case and a treatise.
