Laws are enacted throughout the legislative session. Many have effective dates before any version of the N.R.S. is updated including all print editions, the Nevada Legislature’s N.R.S. website linked above, LexisNexis Academic and Westlaw Patron Access.  In these cases you have to rely on other pages of the Nevada Legislature’s website to determine if a law has been amended.  During each session (and for archived sessions) the Nevada Legislature website posts links of bills and laws that amend particular chapters of the N.R.S.  Since these links change during each legislative session, start with the Legislature’s website home page:  http://www.leg.state.nv.us/.  Ask a reference librarian if you have further questions regarding updates to the N.R.S. sections that you find.

The 79th Session of the Nevada Legislature adjouned on June 6, 2017. If you would like to see if a particular section of N.R.S. has been amended by the laws passed in the 79th Session, you may take the following steps:

1. Go to the Nevada Legislature website (https://www.leg.state.nv.us). Hover over the Session Info link and then click on 79th (2017 Session).

2. Select Bill Information.

3. Select NRS Sections Proposed to be Amended or Repealed

4. The NRS sections proposed to be amended or repealed by the bills introduced in the 79th Session are listed in the numerical order. Locate your NRS section and click on the bill(s) corresponding to the section. For example, the table shows that Assembly Bill (AB) 37 proposed to amend NRS 1.235. The * next to AB 37 indicates that AB 37 is an enrolled bill. This tells us NRS 1.235 has been updated in the 79th Session due to the passage of AB 37.

5. After clicking on a bill (e.g. AB 37), you will see the bill information page for AB 37. Since the enrolled bill is the only bill that affects NRS, select As Enrolled to see the text of AB 37 when it was enrolled. 

6. Read the bill to see how it would affect your NRS section.
